Gathered in and around Telfair Square, the book festival, only in its fifth year, brought together Walter Isaacson, Stephen King, Brad Thor, and many other great writers. Some of my favorites were Jennifer Griffin who wrote (with her husband Greg Myre) This Burning Land about their lives as journalists in Israel covering the Israeli-Palestinian conflict....
Patricia Cohen who has written a fascinating book, In Our Prime, about the invention of "middle-age"...
and last but certainly not least, Dr. Susan Millar Williams who wrote a great book with Steven Hoffius about the South Carolina earthquake of 1883, called Upheaval in Charleston: Earthquake and Murder on the Eve of Jim Crow. Millar is also a Julia Peterkin scholar and we had a great conversation about her!
It wasn't all books. There were Savannah's beautiful squares,
incredible house museums like the Owens-Thomas House,
and my wonderful escort Monica!
Thank you to the city of Savannah, Robin and Stephanie, volunteers like Amy and Joseph and everyone else at the Savannah Book Festival!
