But there were other spectacular things, too! On Saturday night, I read at Wellfleet's beautifully restored Preservation Hall. Big thanks to Vanessa and everyone at the Preservation Hall as well as the good folks at Wellfleet Marketplace who did the book selling!
What a great space, a great event and a great Outer Cape audience! I had the great honor of sharing the stage with writer Kevin Sessums, whose New York Times best-selling memoir Mississippi Sissy recounts his childhood in rural Mississippi.
Me, Vanessa and Kevin--a million thanks to you both for a great night! |
His reading was truly spectacular. Not only was the reading deeply personal for him, but he is a great actor and reader. He had the audience transfixed. If you ever get the chance, this is one writer you must hear read. And take a look at his wonderful book, that deals with race, gender, sexuality and Southern culture--and he was a friend of the late, great Eudora Welty. Check it out!
They sold out of books! But have no fear, more are on the way, and you can calm your nerves with one of their small bottles of curiously shaped blue glass.....
Many thanks to Perry's and this awesome display! |
It was so wonderful to see so many friends and spend time in one of my favorite stomping grounds. I can't wait to go back!
