Loud and Proud

I am so thrilled and proud to participate in the New York Times Disunion blog.  My first essay was put up yesterday.  Check it out here.  A survey piece about North Alabama in the Civil War.  Some of the individuals who figure in the piece appear below.

Jeremiah Clemens (1814-1865), Senator from Alabama 1849-1853.
(Library of Congress)

Union General Ormsby Macknight Mitchel (1810-1862), U.S. Commanding General of the first occupation of North Alabama in the spring of 1862. (Library of Congress)

Mary Jane Cook Chadick (1820 - ?), housewife and staunch Confederate living in Huntsville during the Civil War.
Alabama Department of Archives and History, Montgomery, Alabama.
Please give the piece a read and tell me what you think!

And in the meantime, here are some new pictures of Clovis relaxing in the winter sun.

  1. I adore Clovis as much as he adores the sunshine.
